Moss Slab Wall, Stonehouse Pond - Ice Climbing
Swing those ice tools!
Met up with Adam for some laps at the Moss Slab in Stonehouse Pond. Also met some new climbing friends, Kyle and Autumn - thanks for letting us use your excess anchor rope! Today's temps were cold and with the recent rain, the ice was soft and there was running water in a couple of spots. But still some good climbing laps to be had! With good chilly weather coming, the ice here should set up real nicely for the coming weekend! And thanks Adam for your help and support for my "Turning 60 and Climbing About It" project!
Kick those feet in!
Autumn's 2nd time on ice, swinging and kicking it!

Earl Pawn Campground at Peacock Flats Mokuleia Forest Reserve Trail: Mokuliea Forest Reserve Access Road Elevation: Approx 1410 ft Elevation Gain: Approx 1400 ft Distance: 7.6 miles roundtrip Duration: 4 hours (includes 1 hour spent at the Peacock Flats) Difficulty: Easy, but hot! So bring plenty water! Danger: Low
Took this easy, short hike with my cousins Darrell and Kat. Mokuleia Forest Reserve Access Road is a paved road for 3.8 miles and ends at the top gate at the Forest Reserve boundry. The road is popular with walkers, runners and bicyclists as well. As you ascend the paved road near the top gate, you will see the Peacock Flats Campground directly on your left.
Mileage is marked - the metal pole every half mile and the dark brown signs mark every mile. This is the top gate that ends at the paved road
Once you go around the gate you will see these signs. Follow the wide dirt path to get to the Campground "A" on the left and Campground "B" on the right. The Mokuleia Tra…
Kualoa Ranch - Hiking Solemates Hawaii Hikers Distance: 7 miles loop roundtrip Duration: 4 hrs (includes stops along the trail as well a lunch break at the top of the saddle) Difficulty: Moderate Danger: Low
I finally got a chance to hike with the Solemates Hawaii Hikers! I had been in email contact with Tom Mendes and the only hike I would be able to join while on O'ahu would be to Kualoa Ranch. Kualoa Ranch is a working ranch with cattle and other livestock so dogs aren't allowed on the hike. Kualoa Ranch is also in the business of providing outdoor activities for a fee. So everyone paid their fee ($6 for seniors, age 60 and above and $10 for all others) and was also required to sign in with our names and ages. At the end of the hike we were also required to sign out as well. This hike is not accessible to the public.
Our hike took us through the ranch, over a 600 foot saddle in the summit and into the beautiful Ka’a’awa Valley which has been the setting for many productions such…

Cousin Darrell, rest in Aloha.
When I hiked on Oahu,
my cousin Darrell hiked with me to keep me company and look out for me.
I will miss him and will always remember his quiet confidence.
Here's a list of all the hikes that cousin Darrell and I did. We also had great company with us as well - mahalo to Neil for joining us on these fun hikes.
