Mt. Major - Fall Hiking

Mt. Major (1,780ft) Trail: Boulder Loop (Orange) Elevation Gain: 1,100ft Distance: 3.4 miles roundtrip Difficulty:   Easy to Moderate 4th time’s a charm! There's a reason they call this trail "Boulder Loop!" I had never taken this orange-blazed trail so it was treat to hike. The lower portion of the trail is wide and mostly a Class 1 trail with a final steep pitch to the flat topped summit. Not much views of the lake area. The summit was windy and cold. But it was a good day especially since I got to ogle and scramble over hundreds of boulders along the trail! Enjoy a few photos that I took along the Boulder Loop Trail. Mt. Majors, Straightback Mountain & Mt. Anna – Solo Summer Hike

Mount Majors (1,786ft) Straightback South Mountain – South Peak (1,910ft) Mount Anna (1,660ft) Total Elevation Gain: 1,349ft Trails: Mt. Majors (Blue), Blue-Yellow Merge, Quarry, North Straightback Link (Green), Brook (Yellow) Distance: 7.3 miles roundtrip Duration: 5.0 hrs, 10 min (includes stops at all summits) Difficulty: Moderate When I left my itinerary with my husband I had this hike down for a roundtrip of 4 miles. Oooops!   It didn’t occur to me that the 4 miles was one way until I reached Mt. Anna almost 3 hours after starting. I had depended on a website for mileage and didn’t realize that it didn’t account for the trip back. I don’t know what distracted me from estimating the mileage correctly, but I know better now!   I didn’t mind bagging Mt. Majors for the 3 rd time as the views were stunning! But I needed Straightback Mountain and Mt. Anna, so spent only a few minutes on the crowded summit snacking on my PB&J sandw

Mt. Major - Solo Winter Hiking

Mt. Major (1,780ft) Trails: Mt. Major Main Elevation Gain: 1,100 ft Distance: 3.4 miles roundtrip Duration: 1 hr, 55 minutes (includes stops along the trail and at the summit) Difficulty: Easy to Moderate This hike was an awesome easy workout! I wanted to make the summit in one hour and I did so! The only time I really stopped along the trail on my ascent was when I had gone off trail. I had to stop and search for a bit for those blue blazes. I had brought my snowshoes just in case, but didn’t need them as the trail was nicely packed.      I took the Mt. Major Main trail all the way to the summit. It provides a short and direct route to the summit but near the top it has some really sketchy and steep pitches. I opted to take the alternate route to the left to avoid the ledges. I may be a crazy hiker girl, but I’m not stupid, the ledges were full of ice.   Those ledges There were great 360 degree views at the top but man, was it windy cold! I could only s
