Seek The Peak 2013
13th Annual Hike-A-Thon to support
Mount Washington Observatory
What a day it has been! Unfortunately Mother Nature would not let Chicks On The Rock (and the one guy) climb to the summit today! Our SeekThe Peak team joined up with Neil and Karen and we met up at Pinkham Notch to hike the Tuckerman Ravine Trail.
At 3440 feet I got a cramp in my right calf and couldn't continue. The rest of the team continued onto the shelter and the top of the head wall. While resting before heading back down to the trailhead along came my "trail angel" Ed!! I told Ed that I had nothing but Coconut Water (with Potassium) for fluids. No electrolytes or water….not even my SteriPen! Ed handed me a bottle of Zero Vitamin Water and was on his way.
I drank half the bottle and in no time felt much better. So much so that I was tempted to catch up with my team mates. But given the fact that I only had half a bottle left of the vitamin water, and coconut water was the only fluids I had, I decided against it and headed back down to the trailhead.
I met up with Ed again when he got back to the trailhead and invited him to sit with us for dinner at the After Party! A big MAHALO to Ed for helping me out. His gesture of giving me electrolytes may seem small, but to me it was a valuable lesson and one that I will never, ever forget!
With my Trail Angel Edwin!
I also want to thank my team mates Anne, Noreen, Simona and Mitsu as well as new hiking friends Neil and Karen for being there to share an amazing day...you peeps totally ROCK! And a shout-out to team mate Kimberly who couldn’t make it. Get well girl, and hope to hike with you soon!
And finally, to all those ohana and friends who donated to the Mount Washington Observatory (MWOBS) in my name . . . Mahalo Nui Loa for your generous contributions! I still need to summit Mt. Washington to complete my "NH 48 4000+feet list" and when I do, it'll be dedicated to you all!
